Job Summary
Epsom District Swimming Club (EDSC), based in Surrey, is looking for a coach who is enthusiastic, passionate and well organised. The coach will lead their own squad and develop our junior swimmers aged between 8 and 12 years old. The role requires an experienced coach with excellent technical skills, together with strong management and communication capabilities.
Club Background
The club has approximately 150 swimmers in the competitive squads and is backed by a separate, large, vibrant swim school (Seahorses) with over 850 swimmers, which helps provide a natural feed of talented juniors into the competitive squads.
We offer lessons, coaching and competitive swimming for swimmers. Ages start from 3½ years going through to masters. We are proud of our community spirit and inclusiveness, with swimmers ranging from youngsters in lessons to performance athletes competing at county, regional and national levels. We also support masters swimmers, triathletes, and open water swimmers.
EDSC is a strong and highly successful club and in recent years we have won numerous medals at Surrey Age Groups, plus medal success at regional and national level. We participate in the Arena Junior League and Arena League. We train at pools in and around Epsom. EDSC is a SwimMark accredited club.
Detailed Job Description
The Age Group coach will lead the delivery of the development pathway for one of our two junior (Academy) squads, with an option to work with both, as well as our junior club swimmers. They will also help mentor the assistant coaches. The Age Group coach will work closely with the Seahorses manager and lead teacher as swimmers transition into the competitive squads.
The role requirements are:
• Be enthusiastic and dynamic and love coaching our younger swimmers
• Have strong technical coaching skills
• Provide excellence in coaching through the recognised best practice (in line with the British Swimming OADF) that will improve performance outcomes for swimmers at all levels
• Attend regular competitions in line with the calendar set out with the head coach
• Be well organised and plan training sets for the Academy squad
• Be able to work well with both our senior qualified head coach and other coaches
• Have good communication skills with swimmers, parents, coaching team and committee members alike
• Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Have the ability to inspire, motivate, develop and mentor young swimmers across squads, as well as the ability to build strong relationships with the team
There are also opportunities for additional ad-hoc coaching, working with our head coach and other squads.
Qualifications
Swimming coach certificate or Level 2. Will consider Level 1 working towards Level 2, with relevant experience.
Working Hours
The role requires 5 hours per week, mostly at the weekend, but with the option of more hours if desired.
Contract Type
Self-employed.
Salary
£20-£24 per hour dependent upon experience.
