Congratulations to John Mills of South Croydon SC who has been installed as Surrey’s nomination for London Region vice-president.
John swam for Great Britain at two Olympic Games: Munich in 1972 and Montreal in 1976. He was also Team England captain at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton in 1978.
Having joined South Croydon in 2011, he was head coach for nine years.
During that time he took many swimmers and teams each year to national swimming championships, including Olympic trials.
In 2021, Croydon Borough Swimming Association awarded him an honorary life membership for his contribution to the development of swimming talent.
That same year he and the club also supported a fundraising initiative to help more children in Croydon learn how to swim.
John continues to support the club as a coach, who have since honoured him with life membership.
He becomes president of London in 2024.
