County Development Programme 2021
2021 sees a return to swimming and more recently competition, and we are keen to return to the County Development programme as soon as possible. The county development programme is the first phase of the Swim England talent pathway.
Participants will be selected using criteria set out below and selections are based on the highest rankings achieved during 2021, either through Level x competition or though licensed meets from 12th April to 2021 through to 8th August 2021. Participants are published in the table below.
Matt Smart (County Coach and Programme Lead) will be holding a face to face one day camp, date to be confirmed but anticipated for early October, to be held at the American Community School in Cobham (subject to availability).
Camp Aims
Linking our aquatic alignment through the pathway will help our swimmers become more streamlined with better push offs, underwater phase and the transition into strokes. Also included are technique sessions on; rotational / long axis strokes: backstroke and front crawl and anti-rotational / short axis strokes – butterfly and breaststroke. Land based training is based on developing athleticism and encouraging a good movement pattern on the land and translating this to the water.
Selection Criteria
A maximum of 36 (18 Male – 18 Females) will be selected to attend a one day County Development day camp. Swim England rankings database will be used for selection purposes. Both level x and licensed meets rankings will be used.
The highest ranked 11 year old Male and Female (age as at 31 December 2021), in each event; 50m, 100m, 200m Events, and 400m Free. If the highest ranked swimmer has been selected from an event, we will go to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th ranked swimmer until we reach 6th place. Further wildcard selections will be made from 2nd, 3rd and then 4th etc ranked swimmers until maximum numbers per camp are achieved, where swimmers have equal ranking, selections will be made according to FINA Point Scores. Selections will be made from Short Course times which are congruent with the 2021 County Summer Meet and level x competitions held during 2021.
All attendees are asked to pay a fee of £15.00 to contribute to the costs of the camp, and is payable in advance of attending. The camp is heavily subsidised by Surrey County Swimming ASA.
If a swimmer is unable to attend the day camp, this must be advised no later than two weeks following the publication of the team date so an alternative swimmer may be selected. This is to maximise the benefit that can be obtained from this camp.
