Despite widespread disruption caused by the pandemic, Surrey County ASA still managed to deliver a couple of ‘virtual’ camps for this year’s development swimmers. Team manager Julie Burvill reports
It has been a tough year for all concerned, not least for the Surrey County ASA development team who had three one-day camps cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Whilst we acknowledge disappointment over their cancellation, we still managed to arrange two virtual camps to cover some of the activities missed. The swimmers brushed themselves off, picked themselves back up and enjoyed getting together online.
Activities included pre- and post-pool learning and exercise; nutrition – back to swimming and school; lifestyle – back to training and school; and a fun quiz based around learnings.
Congratulations to Freyja Bourne-Waterhouse, of Epsom District Swimming Club, for being fastest on the buzzer in the quiz, with the most correct answers.
All the swimmers were great fun to be around, and of credit to their clubs, for their knowledge and active participation. As a reminder, a list of the development camp swimmers is here.
Our thanks to Matt Smart, county coach and programme lead, and all the other coaches who have supported him this year.
They were Andrew Snelling (Haslemere SC), Nick Brookes (Guildford City SC), Louise Hargrave (Woking SC), Miro Dimitrov (Leatherhead SC), Josh Taylor Rose (Wey Valley SC), Brian Murphy (Kingston Royals SC), Jordan Niblock (Guildford City SC).
