Report from County Coach – Martin Jurco
Surrey came an impressive 6th in recent National County Team Championships in Sheffield, one place better than last year. The swimmers put stellar performance and were the best-dressed and supporting team in the Ponds Forge Arena. Thanks to great captain-ship from Emma Day and Rubens Kings swimmers enjoyed the competition and swam some impressive times. Newbies on the team were not intimidated and swam their best. In fact out of 7 PB’s in individual events 5 came from swimmers who were on the team for the first time: Rubens King, Zoe Morbey, Owen Knowles, Richard Sugden and Piers Bowden. Surrey relay teams bettered their entry times (based on last years final times) in 5 races out of 7.
We had further success with 19 top 8 individual and relay finishes out of 31 events.
There were many notable performances but in terms of placing and points these were the best:
Hannah Burvill 3rd in 100 FC in 55.96
James Gillie 3rd in 100 FC in 53.08
Samuel Beverley 3rd in 100 Fly in 1:02.56
Anna Maine 3rd in 100 Back in 1:02.81
Many thanks to all who contributed to the successful weekend and worked hard behind the scenes, from selection to realization of the training day and then the race weekend. I would like to say a huge thank you for a great work of our Team Manager Julie Burvill and never stopping to entertain us Jonathan George.
