Star Diving Club Guildford – Head Coach

Job Summary
Star Diving Club are searching for a Head Coach that will lead and manage the overall coaching programme of our competitive springboard & platform diving club with commitment to athlete development, sportsmanship, and excellence. This individual will be responsible for the design and implementation of training plans for divers of all levels, from beginners to elite competitors, while fostering a positive, safe, and supportive environment.

The Head Coach will oversee assistant coaches, ensure adherence to safety standards, support athlete progress, and represent the club in local, regional, and national competitions. The ideal candidate is an experienced, certified diving coach with a passion for teaching, strong leadership skills, and the ability to inspire young athletes.

This role will be required to attend national competitions throughout the term to support club athletes, along with weekly external training sessions (Luton or London Aquatics Centre) with selected squads. The Head Coach will be supported in their duties by the Assistant Head Coach, fellow coaching staff (level 1 & 2), part-time Admin, and the Club Committee.

Key Responsibilities

• Coaching & Athlete Development:
o Plan and lead training sessions for athletes of varying skill levels (recreational and squad).
o Develop training programmes for Age Group and Elite divers that focuses on technique, strength, and safety.
o Track athlete progress and provide constructive feedback to support long-term development.
o Prepare athletes for competition at local, regional, and national levels.
• Leadership & Staff Management:
o Supervise, mentor, and coordinate club coaches to ensure consistent coaching methods and club values.
o Create a collaborative, professional coaching environment that supports growth and accountability.
o Construct the termly timetable, alongside the club administrator, each term.
o Schedule staff for practices and meets; assist in recruitment and evaluation of coaching staff.
• Safety & Facility Oversight:
o Ensure all training sessions follow best practices for safety and injury prevention.
o Monitor equipment and facility usage to maintain a safe environment for all athletes.
o Stay current on Swim England and NPLQ safety protocols and certifications.
• Competition Preparation & Representation:
o Organise and manage athlete participation in diving competitions, including travel logistics and meet registration.
o Attend competitions to coach and support athletes.
o Represent the club professionally with athletes, parents, officials, and other clubs.
• Communication & Administration:
o Maintain clear, ongoing communication with athletes, parents, staff, and club committee.
o Collaborate with the Club Chairman and Committee on strategic planning, budgeting, and programme development.
o Support the reaccreditation of the club’s SwimMark status alongside the committee.
o Participate in fundraising, marketing, and community outreach efforts to support club growth.
Skill & Experience
• Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Experience working in a sports or recreation environment is a plus.
• Knowledge of email marketing and social media platforms is beneficial.
Must-Haves
• Swim England Level 2 Diving Coach Qualification or equivalent.
• Experience coaching to a National Age Group Level Standard.
• Safeguarding certified and Enhanced DBS.
Desirable
• Experience coaching up to Elite Level.
• Experience working with a Talent Identification (TID) programme.
• Experience working with divers on the England Talent Pathway such as the Youth Development Squad.
• Successfully coaches divers to medal-winning performances at a national level.
• Knowledge of CoursePro.
• NPLQ (must complete if successful with application).
• UK Driving Licence.
