Summary
Epsom District Swimming Club (EDSC), based in Surrey, is looking for a coach who is enthusiastic, passionate and well organised. The coach will lead the junior competitive squads and develop swimmers aged between 8 and 14.
Detail
This role requires an experienced coach with excellent technical skills, strong management and communication capabilities. The club has approximately 150 swimmers in the competitive squads and is backed by a separate, large, vibrant swim school (Seahorses) with over 850 swimmers, which helps provide a natural feed of talented juniors into the competitive squads.
We offer lessons, coaching and competitive swimming for swimmers. Ages start from 3½ years going through to masters. We are proud of our community spirit and inclusiveness, with swimmers ranging from youngsters in lessons to performance athletes competing at county, regional and national levels. We also support masters swimmers, triathletes and open water swimmers.
EDSC is a strong and highly successful club and in recent years we have won numerous medals at Surrey Age Groups, plus medal success at regional and national levels. We also participate in the Arena Junior League and Arena League. We train at pools in and around Epsom.
Reporting to the head coach, the lead swimming coach will be responsible for the delivery of the development pathway and the assistant coaches within the junior section of the club. This is composed of two academy squads and a club squad. They will work closely with the Seahorses manager and lead teachers as swimmers transition into the competitive squads.
The successful candidate will:
• Be enthusiastic and dynamic and love teaching our younger swimmers
• Have strong technical coaching skills
• Provide excellence in coaching through the recognised best practice (in line with British Swimming’s OADF) that will improve performance outcomes for swimmers at all levels
• Attend regular competitions in line with the calendar set out with the head coach
• Be well organised and plan training sets for the Academy squad
• Work with the Seahorses Swim School to help transition swimmers moving up into the Academy squads
• Help mentor assistant coaches
• Be able to work well with both our senior-qualified head coach and other coaches
• Have good communication skills with swimmers, parents, coaching team and committee members alike
• Have strong communication and interpersonal skills; both written and verbal
• Set high standards for themselves as well as demanding high standards of others at all times
• Have the ability to inspire, motivate, develop and mentor young swimmers across squads, as well as the ability to build strong relationships with the team
As a lead coach, the candidate would be expected to attend some meets/galas which their swimmers attend. There are also opportunities for additional ad-hoc coaching, working with our head coach and other squads. EDSC is a Swim Mark accredited club.
Working hours
Approximately 8-11 hours per week (negotiable), with opportunities for additional ad-hoc cover.
