Guildford City Swimming Club’s Mike Hodgson has set new European and world records at the Fina World Masters Championships in Budapest.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Competing in the 50\/54-year category, he set a new European record of 1:07.85 in the 100m breaststroke.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Later with Michelle Ware, David Bryant and Lynda Coggins, in the 4x50m mixed medley relay (200\/239), the quartet won the title in a world-record time of 1:59.99.<\/span><\/p>\n

County masters organiser Jim Boucher said there was plenty to appreciate and feel good about in masters swimming.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said: “This world record is a truly amazing breakthrough, not just for Surrey, but for Great Britain.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The world scene has only really seen, in earlier years, our elders winning medals.<\/span><\/p>\n

“But Mike as well as other clubs up and down the country are making the breakthrough in very, very competitive age groups and events.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Hodgson also set a new European record in the 50m butterfly \u2013 clocking in at 26.56sec \u2013 and took silver in the 100m butterfly and 200m breaststroke.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the final day of events at the Duna Arena, he topped it off with a win in the 50m breaststroke \u2013 in a world-record time of 30.26sec \u2013 while team-mate Michelle Ware (40\/44) claimed silver in the 50m backstroke.<\/span><\/p>\n

Elsewhere at the championships, Surrey\/London masters club Spencer Swim Team had podium success too.<\/span><\/p>\n

Grace Isaac (85\/89) took silver in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke; Diane Ford (70\/74) came third in the 50m breaststroke and won the 100m and 200m breaststroke; and Amanda Heath (60\/64) claimed bronze in the 200m and 400m individual medleys and bronze and gold respectively in the 100m and 200m breaststroke.<\/span><\/p>\n

Greg Kahn (45\/49) came third in the 100m butterfly, took silver in the 50m and 100m backstroke and won the 200m backstroke; while Jack Marriott (25\/29) set a new European record of 24.27sec in the 50m butterfly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Its men\u2019s team claimed silver in the 4x50m medley relay (120\/159).<\/span><\/p>\n
