{"id":2853,"date":"2017-05-22T13:18:09","date_gmt":"2017-05-22T12:18:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/?p=2853"},"modified":"2022-08-23T10:27:30","modified_gmt":"2022-08-23T09:27:30","slug":"swimming-official-ann-van-beukelen-awarded-london-silver-pin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/?p=2853","title":{"rendered":"Swimming official Ann van Beukelen presented with London long service award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Veteran swimming official Ann van Beukelen has been presented with an ASA London Region long service award.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3352 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/AvB-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"389\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/AvB-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/AvB.jpg 665w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 389px) 100vw, 389px\" \/>Marking 10 years&#8217; service, a silver pin and certificate were presented to her at a county management meeting by Diane Gamble, the London Region vice-president, and Carole Chaplin, president of Surrey County ASA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Carole said: &#8220;Ann has always been a much respected referee in my eyes and one of the stalwarts and backbone of Surrey officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">&#8220;She is extremely reliable and always puts herself out to be at all the galas she is asked to attend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">&#8220;I have been involved with Surrey Schools&#8217; Swimming Association for well over 30 years, slightly longer than I have been an official, and she has always come and helped at our galas, which is how I came to know her.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Diane, who has been officiating for almost 20 years, said\u00a0Ann was a friend and mentor and dubbed her &#8220;Mrs Swimming.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">She added: &#8220;Her blood is made up of chlorine. Swimming has been her life. Everyone knows her and the swimmers at Kingston have all passed through the cadets, which she has been involved with since her children were small.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Ann has been an officials&#8217; trainer for more than 25 years, is on the London licensing panel and was, until recently, the London representative on the National Swimming Officials Group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">In 2008 she was\u00a0the recipient of\u00a0the Alfred H Turner award,\u00a0presented nationally to an organisation or individual making an outstanding contribution to aquatics at club, county, regional, national or international level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Surrey County ASA vice-president Richard Willis said Ann&#8217;s contribution to Surrey, London, the old Southern Counties district, and nationally had been &#8220;significant, perhaps tremendous.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Past ASA, regional and twice Kent president Kay Grimshaw, who heads the London Swimming events management committee, said Ann&#8217;s involvement had been for ever.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran swimming official Ann van Beukelen awarded ASA London Region silver pin for 10 years&#8217; service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":3352,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_genesis_hide_title":false,"_genesis_hide_breadcrumbs":false,"_genesis_hide_singular_image":false,"_genesis_hide_footer_widgets":false,"_genesis_custom_body_class":"","_genesis_custom_post_class":"","_genesis_layout":"","footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[15,14,3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2853","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-featured","category-news","category-swimming","entry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2853","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/6"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=2853"}],"version-history":[{"count":38,"href":"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2853\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":9080,"href":"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2853\/revisions\/9080"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/3352"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=2853"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=2853"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/surreyswimming.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=2853"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
